This year through the platform of international mother’s day (9th may), WPF is launching an awareness raising campaign on UN-HRC resolution on preventable maternal mortality and morbidity where Maternal health has been declared as a human right issue. The elimination of maternal mortality and morbidity requires effective promotion and protection of women and girls’ human rights. The right should get acknowledgement at district, provincial and national level so that a collective commitment and pledge become noticeable against maternal deaths and establish maternal health as a basic women right.
The campaign goal is to examine and advocate national pledge of policy makers and decision makers in milieu of Geneva ‘Preventable maternal mortality and morbidity and human rights’ resolution and also to spread information pertaining to this resolution among general public so that they understand the human right aspect of safe motherhood.
Rang-e-kainat is a four months duration campaign starting from nine days before Mother day (May 9th) and will conclude on International Youth day 12th Aug 2010. By mean of different media and activities message on safe motherhood will be communicated while engaging Implementing partners at various districts on behalf of WPF, Pakistan proposed plan.
Safe motherhood resolution–sign resolution activity is established on specifically created webpage under the theme of SM campaign Rang-e-Kainat to endorse the maternal health right resolution at national level. As public signed the petition, this platform will provide an opportunity to build pressure from bottom to top on this issue and to push government to take concerted action for preserving the lives of all women at child birth.
The campaign is designed to advocate safe motherhood related issue at federal, provincial and district levels through various activities.
WPF particularly appreciates its implementing partner organizations that are requested to kick off this signature campaign in schools of their regions and get signed by school children and teachers 9 days before mother’s day. Beside information based seminars, community based activities and other activities will be carried out by partners on this subject.
Though maternal health is a matter of concern for all provinces but specifically the ratio of maternal deaths is comparatively higher in Baluchistan. WPF, Pakistan will present the collective resolution of public in the form of signature campaign in August to the Chief Minister of Baluchistan and will insist him to highlight the issue in provincial assembly.
At federal level WPF will directly speak to the masses about maternal health facts using foot print idea as a communication mean in public parks which is not run of the mill medium and will surely gain public attention. Simultaneously WPF will also be doing a small interactive activity with families visiting F-9 Park Islamabad on Mother’s day. WPF has also planned to gather active parliamentarians and to carry out a dialogue session with them on MMR and MDG 5 (Improved maternal health by 2015).
Rang-e-Kainat campaign will be concluded on International Youth Day, Aug 12, 2010 where a memorial will specifically be designed on the subject of Maternal Mortality Resolution which will be installed in a prominent round about location of the Capital city. This monument will be a symbol of dedication from young people of Pakistan to all the mothers who died due to pregnancy related complication or during child birth.
Media sensitization workshops will be organized, one is planned before Mother’s day and the other will be conducted in the mid of campaign period. The journalists and media representatives will be inspired to highlight the significance of this matter through their articles, columns, coverage to MMR and through meaningful talk shows. All technical support and necessary aid in the form of written text or other facts will be provided by WPF to the media members.
