Celebration of Mothers’ Day
Celebrations of International day provide the opportunity to link the issues with the recognized days and to put forward the agenda, which will lead a lot of support. Various events around the set days would take place on broadcasting the importance of the issue with the special day. WPF already celebrates the Mothers’ Night (International Mothers’ Day), Fathers’ Day and International Youth Day. Mothers’ Night is a Support base for MDG 5 (Improve Maternal Health); which has enabled WPF, Pakistan to lobby on the Maternal Mortality Resolution at the UN Human Rights Council.
It is very important to develop strong linkages with Media to get the message across, coverage of all the activities with regard to Safe Motherhood Campaign along with its messages is very vital.
Press Briefing on Mother’s Day (9 May 2010) for highlighting the issues of Safe Motherhood. Through Press Briefing, the issue would be covered in the press, which will disseminate information to a larger public.
In 9 days activism campaign(from 1-9 May, 2010), Partner Organization will be using outdoor footprint messages at various strategic locations of their respective district for example; Public Park, mother and child health care centre, any prominent pavement. The footprint message will serve the purpose of creating pre-event hype and raising awareness over safe motherhood among public.
WPF, Pakistan is running a signature campaign on this year Safe Motherhood Campaign targeting 100,000 signatures with the support of Partner Organization in their provinces on International Mothers’ day.
Partner Organizations will arrange school activity on International Mothers’ day and WPF, Pakistan will provide a designed signature campaign sheet for this campaign, which will be presented to the Government of Pakistan along with the Member of the National Assembly here in Islamabad.
Partner Organizations will organise the awareness-raising seminar at the district or community level on International Mothers’ day while highlighting the importance of safe motherhood in Pakistan.
Partner Organizations will organize walk on the eve of International Mothers’ day (8 May 2010) which will be concluded on the Candle Vigil as a symbolic gesture towards the cause of safe motherhood in Pakistan.
